New Education Building on 4th Street

A new Education Building, located at 945 Fourth Street in Portsmouth, has become part of the SSU campus, providing classroom and office space for the Teacher Education program. All Teacher Education and Sign Language classes are now taught in this building. MORE

SSU grads are invited to join the SSU Alumni Council, dedicated to enriching the lives of more than 12,000 SSU alumni, as well as current and future students. MORE

AEP Scholarship providing $25,000 for Workforce Development

AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power, has donated $25,000 in scholarship funds to the SSU Development Foundation as part of a workforce development initiative designed to help low income Ohioans compete for jobs in an evolving economy. MORE

New Math Scholarship Established at SSU

SSU Associate Professor John J. Whitaker, PhD, has established a new scholarship for math students – the Ferguson-Hamilton-Knox Math Scholarship, in honor of retired Professor Orville Ferguson, Professor Virgina Hamilton, and SSU alumnna Cheryl Knox. MORE

Record Number of Students Enrolled This Fall

SSU has reached record enrollment once again this year, with nearly 4600 students — a 7 percent increase over last year. Nearly 1,000 of these students are living in University Housing.

SSU Student Named First Director of Women Veterans Organization

Andrea Werner, Shawnee Student Veteran’s Association President, was recently named the national director of the Women Veterans Initiatives and Advocacy for the Student Veterans of America (SVA). She will represent SSU, and women veterans who are going to college all over the country, during the SVA national conference in Washington, DC. MORE
